Domestic Partnership Issues and Answers

In 2005, the Domestic Partnership Act was enacted in New Jersey. New standing was provided to same-sex couples that was previously unavailable to them. Anna-Maria Pittella helps domestic partners register their relationship and establish and negotiate agreements.

Since the legal recognition of their relationship is so new, the consequences of their dissolution are vague. There is very little case law at this time, but Anna-Maria Pittella helps domestic partners protect themselves by using legal agreements which provide for the distribution of their property through various estate planning devices, including:

Wills
Power of Attorney
Advanced Medical Directives

If a domestic partnership fails, the couple can work with Anna-Maria Pittella to avoid litigation and retain the confidentiality of their dealings as they sort through the distribution of their assets, support or parenting issues.
